About ACLS
Australian Christian Legal Society (ACLS) exists to unite Australian Christian legal professionals in the service of a common mission:
To advance the kingdom of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ through the legal profession.
We seek to encourage Christian lawyers to not only consider how their faith can impact on their legal work, but to empower them to express their faith in action as a legal professional in order to have a positive impact on society in the pursuit of righteous justice.
Through the ACLS, we work to prayerfully gather individuals in the legal profession to extend all three of these objectives, and in strengthening each of us in our dedication to seek His glory in our region of the world and beyond.
Our strategic plan has 3 pillars:
prayer, fellowship & sharing our faith, and aid
Prayer
We will put God at the centre of all we do and seek His direction in considering how we may express our faith as a member of the legal profession.
1.1 Meeting once a week to pray for the legal profession
1.2 Equipping the leaders of prayer groups at law firms, in-house legal teams and law schools
1.3 Supporting the formation of prayer groups within the legal profession
1.4 Encouraging the legal profession to gather for prayer at the beginning of the legal year
Fellowship & Sharing our Faith
We will support the creation of opportunities for Christians in the legal profession to meet together on a regular basis to encourage each other and share the gospel with the wider profession.
2.1 Supporting the activities of Christian legal committees from the States and Territories, with the aim of hosting an event each quarter so there is a regular opportunity for the community to gather (eg Opening of the law term prayer service, Lecture, Meet the Profession dinner for law students around the time when clerkship applications open, and a Christmas event)
2.2 Supporting the formation of special interest groups to help foster community for Christians within the legal profession (eg a group for those in family law who wish to understand how their faith interacts with their work or law students groups)
2.3 Partnering with organisations such as the UK Lawyers' Christian Fellowship and City Bible Forum to encourage and equip the legal profession to share, live out, apply and promote the Christian Faith
2.4 Developing teaching resources and materials (such as bible studies, lectures, pastoral resources).
Aid
We will enable the expression of the Christian faith through public benefitting action within our wider society, both domestically and internationally.
3.1 Partnering with the UK Lawyers' Christian Fellowship to support The Rwandan Women's Justice Program
3.2 Promoting volunteer opportunities that help members of the legal profession develop their skills (eg Board positions of Christian organisations and churches, pro bono work and volunteering at community legal centres)
